Parkview Big Bedtime Read

Parkview Big Bedtime Read

We are delighted to have launched the ‘Big Bedtime Read’ as part of the Early Intervention Transformation Programme ‘Getting Ready to Learn’ scheme for Nursery age pupils.

The main focus of the project is to promote reading in the home, particularly as part of a bedtime routine.

Bed time can be a great time to bond, share stories and develop wellbeing but it can also be a very stressful time for some families and for some children who fight against routine and find it difficult to settle, relax and calm the mind.

To support families, we have established a lending library, in which a book bag will be sent home every week along with some other sensory equipment to try and promote relaxation at this critical time in any family. Resources include soft comforts which can be warmed up to help ease tension, fidget toys, relaxing stars for the ceiling and most importantly nursery rhyme sheets that promote the use of Makaton at bedtime.

We are happy to continue developing the range of books on offer to parents dependent on pupil interest and we intend to continue developing and evolving this project.

It is such a pleasure to work closely with parents on this project and to promote reading, reduce screen time and ultimately help our young people regulate emotions and wind down before bed.
