The Nursery Curriculum

The children in Parkview nursery experience the nursery curriculum through play and other relevant experiences. Play is the most natural way for a child to learn and through it many basic skills are acquired, attitudes fostered and concepts explored. Activities are designed to promote the child's growth in the following areas:

Personal, social and emotional development

Physical development and movement

The Arts

Language/ Communication development

Early mathematical experiences

The World Around Us

Play is the Business of Childhood

Through various activities children are given many opportunities to progress and develop at their own rate and to realise their full potential.

 

 

The Foundation Stage Curriculum

Following the introduction of the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum

Years 1 and 2 have been renamed the ‘Foundation Stage’.

The aim of the Foundation stage is to provide children with an appropriate programme of learning to develop their dispositions to learn and assist them to develop the skills and competences they will need to succeed in school and in future life.

Well-planned play and practical activities provide opportunities for children to begin to develop an awareness of:

others

the environment

a range of social and learning skills.

At the Foundation Stage the six areas of learning are:

Key Stage 1 Curriculum

(Years 3 & 4)

The major emphasis of the revised Key Stage 1 and 2 Curriculum focuses on the further enhancement of pupils’ self-esteem and self-confidence and their capacity to learn by developintheir natural curiosity and imagination,

literacy, numeracy and ICT skills,

 personal and interpersonal skills;

creativity in finding out information and exploring solutions for themselves.
